Survival

The most important mechanic in Curve Fever is survival.
This means that you should really focus on staying alive as long as possible instead of attacking your opponents.
On this page you will find some information about survival but also tips to help you get better at staying alive longer.

tipThe longer you stay alive the more points you get!

Crashing

When your ships hits any of the lines that are created on the field you crash and die.
The border is closed, this means that you can not hit the border otherwise you will also crash.
When you crash your ship will explode and you will no longer be able to play during the round.
All your opponents that are still alive will receive +10 points when you die so staying alive is really important.
If turrets are enabled you do get a turret after you crash, which you can use to shoot missiles at other players to steal points.

Gaps

Ships will some times leave gaps in the line that's left behind.
These gaps don't have collision so you can navigate through them.
You can even go through the same gap multiple times, some players even manage to go through gaps 4 times.
When you go through a gap for the first time you can pick up the little balls and you gain +1 point. (see scoring)

Pathfinding

To survive it's important to look ahead on the field.
Look for a safe path and steer along this path to stay alive and while you do this look further ahead for your next move.
Try to stay away from opponents especially in the beginning.

tipIn most situations it's better to focus on survival and staying alive instead of trying to attack players.
Therefore it's almost always better to stay away from your opponents whenever possible.

Steering

Your ship is moving at a constant speed and you have to steer your ship with the left and right keys.
By default these are the arrow keys and A|D but you can change keybinds in the settings window.
Generally speaking you have most control of steering when you do small taps rather than holding down the keys.
If you want to make a sharp turn you can of course hold down the key but to navigate through the maze of lines on the field it's usually best to just spam the key with small taps.

Powers

Make sure to use powers to your advantage, most powers can help you with survival.
The blue powers are all aimed towards survival for example you can jump over lines, dash through lines, teleport over lines etc...
Also the red mine/bomb powers can help you with survival because you can blow up lines to go through them but this requires some more skill.

tipIt's usually recommended to pick at least one blue power.
If you're new to the game it might even be better to pick two blue powers to really focus on getting good at survival.

Space creation & camping

It can be a good strategy to try and create a space so you basically claim a part of the map for yourself.
You can then go in circles within this space to start camping and to stay alive as long as possible.
Do pay attention to the powers of your opponents though because they can shoot items in your camp or they might be able to laser you, teleport in your camp and use other powers to disrupt you.
In the teams gamemode camping is especially useful since there are no powers to steal points.
To practice camping you can create a special camping match in the create match screen. (see match settings)

More tips

tipSome times you might want to crash on purpose.
For example if you have a lot of points and you're about to get hit.
This is especially useful when there's only a few opponents alive.
